Consultation is Key…

Thinking of having a change in style? Maybe just a change in stylist? Achieving your desired look is a fantastic feeling for both us & you when we get there, but there are some important tips to remember to help your stylist reach your goal…

Desired Look…

At the start of every hair service your stylist will discuss with you your desired outcome. This is the time for you to explain what it is you are after, you could show us pictures or any other inspiration. As hair magazines seem to be a thing of the past & if you have struggled to find a photo of what you are looking for, ask us for our salon IPad, together we can scroll through ideas and work out what it is you like & dislike.

This is your starting point however this is also the most important time to discuss with your stylist whether this look is achievable & for what reasons. Remember everyone’s hair is different- hair growth patterns, old hair colour, condition of the hair- are just a few factors that can alter your desired outcome. Together we will come up with a style as close to the desired look as possible & give you an estimated time frame you are looking at…

…Not everything can be done in one sitting (or at all)

Instagram & Pinterest are perfect for style inspiration but they can be difficult for stylists as almost every picture has been tampered with. We pride ourselves here at Saffron with our ‘NO FILTER’ policy, meaning all our photos on social media are unedited & what you see in the picture you will see in real life. Not all hairdressers are like this, therefore the colour in the picture you are showing us may not even exist! Also all stylists are artists in their own right, everybody works differently so how we achieve the desired style may not be how the original stylist in the photo has & therefore will vary in result. Another main factor of how Instagram promotes unrealistic expectations is that the middle stages of the colour are very rarely shown, not all big colour changes can be done in one sitting however the before & after shot will not show the weeks in between with the half way colour. We can work with what you have currently & give you options of what you can leave with that day & the steps you will be taking in between your first appointment to the final look. Remember we care about you & your hair. We want to keep it as healthy & shiny as possible & I’m sure you do too so if we are advising against something or exploring other avenues its for you & your hairs benefit.

Colour change, we need your colour history…

If we ask you about your hair colouring history it is important you give us the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. We are not here to judge but we are going to use that to decide what we can (or cannot) use on your hair. If there is box colour on there we need to know, we wont make you feel terrible for using it, everyone has their reasons and has done it and we understand but it can hugely effect what chemical process we can carry out next.

Don’t let us be the only ones asking questions…

During your consultation you will hear us asking many questions about the maintenance of your hair such as ‘how often do you wash your hair?’ and ‘’How do you blow dry your hair?’ The reasons for all our questions is so we can tailor your hair style to your lifestyle, but don’t let us be the quiz master. If you have questions about your style ask them now. Anything to do with after care, products, how often you will need to return between cuts is essential you know before we start cutting. You do not want to get to the end of your appointment with a gorgeous hair style that you will not be able to manage at home, and we don’t want that either so lets talk….

We provide complementary consultations here at Saffron so if you are thinking of having a change of style then we advise you book one of these 15 minute slots & we can discuss options & provide necessary allergy tests before you book your appointment. Just call the salon or pop in & we can arrange this for you.
